WSS Project - Plodding Along Steadily

I'm still working away on my WSS soldiers - retouching and re-basing - there's a lot to do, but it's going along nicely, and I'm aiming to have enough forces to do some rules testing before long.

Here's a humble photo of some recent work - nothing ground-shaking, just some more nice toy soldiers!
Imperialists - still short of a few colonels and all the flags (which I'm working on separately) - here are some recent additions - 3 battalions of the IR Lothringen (Bishop of Osnabrueck's regt), 2 regiments of cuirassiers and the first of the artillery
Figures are all 1970s Les Higgins 20mm - I can't remember who made the cannon, but they're not Higgins

  1. Ooh I like those cannon master Foy. Nice jolly colour. Hope this comment gets through okay by the way. I’ve been battling Apple all day, so fingers crossed.

    1. GNY to you JBM. Yellow cannon - natty, eh? And the French had red cannon, I understand - fantastic. Unless you read TMP, in which case everybody doesn't really know but offers some irrelevant piece of information they do know, just to keep their end up.

  2. Tony, your collections always look stately, elegant, and civilized. Looking forward to more of your WSS project in 2020.

    1. Thank you, Jon. I feel you have summed up my whole lifestyle very nicely there - many people find me stately, elegant and civilised to the point of being unbearable!

    1. What I really need is stamina - no - I'm pleased with progress - just have to set some realistic milestone dates!

  5. Best of luck with the rebasing project, I think the guns are minifig but I could be wrong.

All the best for your projects in 2020

    1. Thanks Matt - that's a good shout - initially I thought they might be Hinchliffes, since they have glued-on hub rings, but there is no steel axle - the axle stubs are cast on.

  6. Superb work. Wonderful figures too.
Keep up the good work - looking forward to your WSS HEX (that sounds vaguely wrong) rules.

    1. Merci, M le Duc. The draft rules are still changing every morning, but I think I'm getting there. I'm approaching the moment when I realise they may not work at all!

  7. Coming along nicely Tony. Before you know it you'll be doing Höchstadt.

    No not that one.

    1. Shaping up - I'm making a special effort to rebase the sides with some sort of balance - it would be a shame to become fed up with the whole idea when I hadn't started the Franco/Bavarians yet.

Höchstadt - I was given a copy of Charles Spencer's book about Blenheim - good grief. How to write history in the style of the 19th Century. Louis XIV is identified as a "monstrous tyrant", which is a tad bitchy, I would have thought.

  8. Very nice toy soldiers indeed!

There seems to be a bit of a mismatch between unit size and the square grid though......

    1. Yes - this is the kitchen table - the good news is that we can lay out the cutlery with the most satisfying precision.

    1. Hi Graham - it does make it easier when most of the painting is already done! I'm starting to think about adding luxuries like generals - this must be progress.

I do like the green uniforms.

    1. Hi Aly - it took me a while to track down what they were, but Osnabrück will do nicely.

    1. I rarely visit, but just occasionally Google tricks me into going there - I'm really not worthy - I prefer it that way.
