The Miracle of the Berezina

This is actually a reprise - I posted this picture the first Christmas of this blog - I had very few readers in those days, and I think the post went largely unnoticed. I'd forgotten all about it, but came across it today by accident, and it still pleases me, so I thought I would run it again.

Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to everyone - thank you for visiting here.

  2. Hmm, do you think the mounted officer has spotted a sotnia of Cossacks lurking in that tree?
A happy Christmas and a wargame-filled New Year to you too, Tony, and many thanks for all the entertainment given by your blog over the past year.

    1. Best wishes Aly.

No word of a lie, I was once taken out for dinner at the Hong King Lum restaurant in Sacramento - I explained to my hosts that in Scots this would mean "stinking chimney" (pretty much) and at first I wasn't believed, then later they assumed that this was an actual translation into some bizarre lost language, rather than a (moderately bizarre) matter of dialect.

Yes, the story is boring, but it makes up for it in truth. I checked online, and - maybe 32 years later - it is now the Royal Hong King Lum, so I guess they've been ennobled in the meantime.
