This may be old news (I hope it isn't fake news), but Eric Burgess's long awaited siege game rules, Vauban's Wars, are scheduled to be released first week in August. It is hard to sustain actual excitement for 9 years, or whatever it is, but I really am quite excited. I've been waiting for this since it was called Coehorn's Wars (before the takeover?).
Here's a completely unauthorised snapshot of the back cover (regard it as an advert, if you will), borrowed from the Piquet and Field of Battle Facebook page - final proof-check should be next week. I've been following the playtesting on the Piquet site and on Eric's and Gonsalvo's blogs, and it all looks good.
Likewise been following this development and will get a copy. Just got the new FOB but I will wait for Caliver books to get copies in after being stung for £24 customs and postal handling .
ReplyDeleteHi Graham
DeleteDont forget Lancashire games stock Piquet and FOB.
That's good news - looking forward to it being available soon. Cheers Greg
ReplyDeleteVery interesting, I may be tempted to crack open the wallet for this.
ReplyDeleteAnother one waiting with interest.
ReplyDeleteYes, it has my attention too.
ReplyDeleteObviously Eric must be a very busy chap - I can dimly remember that there was a time when I had a life myself! There has been a constant theme of time-slip throughout this project, which is OK but does introduce doubt when new announcements appear. Communications on Eric's own blog and on the Piquet FB page now give dates in August when things should happen, and it appears that the pandemic may actually have focused minds a little. There are now prices ($40 for hardcopy rules, $25 for pdf, $15 for custom card deck) and photos of cards and other components. All very promising.
ReplyDeleteI asked Eric if the product was to be part of the official Piquet range, and whether Lancashire Games would be stocking it in the UK. I didn't really understand his reply, which was that Piquet were printing the game, and he assumed Lancashire Games would be stocking it if they wanted to do so. So I wrote to Lancashire Games, who appear not to have heard of it but they will check with Brent Oman to see what the position is.
If you wish to follow this thread, the best place is the "Piquet and Field of Battle" FB presence (which I think you can't read unless you join). Playtesting posts have appeared on Gonsalvo's "Blunders on the Danube" blog which are well worth reading (the blog is excellent anyway, if you don't know it).
It now looks as if I am going to live long enough to see this game appear. I've been collecting buildings and scenic kit in anticipation for years! I managed to live to see Liverpool win the Premier League, so anything is possible really.
I think availability of the rules in the near future is all but assured. The exact time frame, especially for UK orders from Lancashire games, remains inherently a bit uncertain.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed the playest games (including one I haven't written up), and was planning to run a siege game with the rules at Historicon this year, but that became impossible.
