French Refurb - 1/47e arrives

Another finished battalion for the French Refurb project - this time very kindly painted by Lee, for which my sincere thanks and appreciation.

Castings are appropriate Old School Les Higgins, for the most part, with some more modern support. I was more than a little disappointed to find, when they emerged from the stripper, that some of the fusiliers were in fact re-cast copies, but Lee coped with all that. The grenadiers and the drummer are Schilling miniatures, and the colonel, predictably, is by Art Miniaturen. The eagle bearer is an old NapoleoN casting. All a bit of a mish-mash, really, but very welcome. The first battalion of the 47eme Ligne, these chaps will form part of Ferey's Division of the Armee de Portugal, early 1812.

Thanks, Lee.

Second Topic

This morning I re-acquainted myself with a very nostalgic aroma. I sharpened half a dozen old "Beryl" pencils. Wow - the smell of freshly sharpened pencils - instantly transported back to ancient classrooms, old workplace scenarios, even my old sketchbook when I was a kid. Reminds me - do they still have the Cumberland Pencil Museum in Keswick? Haven't been there in years, but it used to be a fun place to visit.

Third Topic

Purely my worthless opinion, of course, but since Mr Trump's forthcoming visit to the UK is in any case not a widely popular event, why does he feel it is appropriate to express his views on our current political situation? Notwithstanding the compulsion to put in a plug for a couple of his pals, would it not be classier and more polite if he just kept his fat lip buttoned?

  1. Lee did a great job on these. My own unit is nearing completion - maybe today, if the weather stays lousy! :-)

"Class" and "Trump" do not go together... at all.

  2. Apparently so according to a work colleague:

    Never been myself.....

  3. 1) They look lovely and all work well within the same unit; 2) Agreed. Nothing quite like the spicy aroma of freshly sharpened pencils;
    3) Agreed. There are no words.

    Best Regards,

  4. Yes the Pencil Museum is still there in Keswick (think it's been re-furbished) sad to say living so near it I have never visited it - shame on me . DON'T get me started about that idiot from across the Atlantic !

  5. 1. Very nice indeed!
    2. Yes, it is still there, and you're right, it seems to be one of the few smells that hasn't changed over the years. Instant nostalgia.
    3. A little harsh. I think Trump is a great unifier. Everyone in Britain, of any political persuasion, has the same opinion about him. No British politician can generate this level of consensus.

    1. re 3: maybe this is a clever double-bluff. Maybe an endorsement from Tronald is a poisoned chalice. Not quite the same thing, but I am reminded that, a few years ago, every time that David Cameron appeared on TV to persuade the people in Scotland that they should remain part of the UK, there was a perceptible swing towards the SNP the following morning - you could see it in the opinion polls - immediately. I wonder - was there ever a politician who realised that he had no appeal at all? Apart from Peter Bone, of course.

    2. It's a valid point. Have the anti-Boris lobby sponsored the Orange One to say it? Can he be bought? No, forget I said that ...

  6. Top job by that man 'Lee there.
As for the Orange One, state banquet and all, I'm sure it will all look splendid in the new season of "The Clown"

  7. I can only imagine what it would be like if the Prince of Orange were to visit Canada during a fraught political period and opine and bluster about domestic politics while threatening our own version of the NHS. Thoughts and prayers.
I suspect his visit to England has been good the Remain side.

    1. I was trying to imagine how wise it would be for a British dignitary to visit the US, uttering criticism of the relationship with Mexico as they arrived? Tronald is also proposing to help us with privatisation of the NHS on a previously unseen scale - I thought Reagan once agreed that with Mrs T.

Oh, and drop out of Europe and he'll sell us more food than you would believe. Would we all care for a piece of the action?
